Each student's progress is monitored in the experiential learning platform, EduSourced. This software platform provides a space for professional collaboration between students, faculty and mentors while maintaining project records such as student and team progress.
Specific milestones and tasks have been established to guide and gauge student progress and to help foster a student-mentor relationship. The milestones are organized below, by learning track. Any student or mentor with questions should email the e3 Initiative Team: e3initiative@nmsu.edu.
STIPENDS: Students who complete and report milestones and complete entry and exit surveys may earn stipends. Stipends are paid directly to student accounts. Students may earn up to $1,350 in stipend payments during their participation in the e3 Initiative.
ABOUT COURSERA COURSES: As of July 1, 2023, stipends will only be payable to a student if the student has completed 90% or more of the course content. Likewise, it is expected that each student will spend a reasonable number of learning hours on each course. Analytics provided by Coursera will be used to evaluate student effort.
QUESTIONS? Email the e3 staff members at e3initiative@nmsu.edu.

Final stipend payment will be made after Task 6 is complete.
Milestone A: Student Readiness
Final stipend payment will be made after Task 9 is complete.
Milestone A: Student Readiness
Task 1: Students must upload resumes to Resumes Tab in EduSourced and complete the initial survey they received in the welcome email within one week of being added to their project in EduSourced. Once this is done, the e3 Initiative Team will issue the first $150 stipend payment.
Task 2: Students schedule one-hour video meeting with mentors within two weeks of the student-mentor introduction provided via email by the e3 Initiative Team. Document meeting date in Discussion Tab of EduSourced. Not all students will receive a mentor right away.
Task 3: Students and mentors meet. Students document meeting outcomes in Discussion Tab.
Task 4: Students create a folder with their individual name on it in the Files Tab. Document design timeline and upload a copy of the timeline to individual student folder in the Files Tab. Students are asked to document bi-weekly progress reports (brief paragraphs) in Discussion Tab.
Milestone B: Project Health and Budget Approvals
Task 5: Mid-course Design Summary uploaded to student's folder in Files Tab along with an itemized Budget. Budgets must include Component Name, Specifications/Description, Quantity, Price per Unit, Total Cost, Manufacturer, Link to Product for online purchase. Email e3initiative@nmsu.edu to obtain a budget template and/or to let us know that you have posted your budget in EduSourced. Budget approvals and purchasing instructions come from e3 Initiative program manager, Sara Patricolo at e3initiative@nmsu.edu.
Task 6: Students are required to communicate with the e3 team. In EduSourced, use the Project Health tab to document progress. Place a few notes to let us know if you are just starting, 50% complete, paused for school exams, unable to continue, as examples.
Milestone C: Project Completion (open-ended)
Task 7: Acknowledgement of reaching a conceptual design. Upload to Files Tab. Student sends an email to e3initiative@nmsu.edu to identify that he or she is ready to present the conceptual design.
Task 8: Conceptual design presented to mentor and/or College of Engineering faculty. Presentations are not required for NAR 1 and NAR 2 rocket level certifications. A presentation is required for NAR 3 rocket projects -- a presentation summarizing NAR 1, NAR 2, and NAR 3 project successes and challenges, budget, and SWOT. Please include photos.
Task 9: Students request exit survey and document date submitted in Discussion Tab. Students send an email to e3initiative@nmsu.edu (copy to mentor) with the subject line, “Final Status.” The email message should include the title of the project in EduSourced, student’s name, and an indication of the project health (i.e., I completed my project. I reached "xyz" stage with my project. My project is incomplete but I am discontinuing my work with it.).
Once this is done, students will be eligible for another $150 stipend payment. Students working on NAR certifications as design projects are eligible for $150 stipend payments after NAR 2 certification and, again, after NAR 3 certification has long as all project tasks are complete.
