John E. Scruggs ’64 BSEE
John Eugene Scruggs is currently serving as Senior Vice President and General Manager of the Automated Test Group at Agilent Technologies. He has announced his retirement effective October 2002. In this role, he holds worldwide responsibility for development, sales, and manufacturing of Agilent’s Semiconductor and Manufacturing Test ATE products and services. He has served in this capacity for six years and is based in Loveland, Colorado.
Scruggs joined Hewlett‑Packard in 1973 as an engineer in the Integrated Circuits Department of the Loveland Instrument Division. He contributed to development teams for several new test equipment products as a designer, project manager, and section manager. In 1983, he became R&D laboratory manager for the Manufacturing Test Division. In 1985, he was promoted to General Manager of the Manufacturing Test Division, a position he held until 1992, when he became General Manager of the Automated Test Business Unit. In 1996, the unit was elevated to Group status and Scruggs was named a Vice President of Hewlett‑Packard. When Agilent split from HP in 1999, he became Senior Vice President.
Before joining HP, Scruggs worked for five years as a design engineer at the Government Electronics Division of Motorola in Phoenix, Arizona. During this time, he contributed to the development of both flight and ground equipment for NASA’s Mariner and Apollo space programs.
Scruggs was born October 14, 1941, in Dallas, Texas. He received his BSEE from New Mexico State University in 1964, where he was a co‑op student at White Sands Missile Range. He also holds an MSEE from Arizona State University. He is married and has three daughters.
