In memoriam: Norman L. Marley

Norman-L.-Marley.jfif

Norman L. Marley, 91, was born April 18, 1933, in Santa Fe, New Mexico. He transitioned to his next exciting adventure on December 2, 2024.

Norm led a full life. He was a mechanical engineering graduate of New Mexico State University where he was a member of Pi Tau Sigma international honor society and Phi Kappa Tau fraternity. After graduation, he entered the US Air Force then following his service, took a position as a project engineer at Garrett AiResearch in Phoenix, Arizona. 34 years later, he retired as Manager of Military Technical Support, leaving behind a loyal team of field service and customer service engineers stationed around the world. In his "spare" time, Norm farmed 80 acres of alfalfa in Buckeye, Arizona.

An avid boater, water skiier, and hot air ballon pilot Norm loved exploring hidden corners of Lake Powell and welcoming the sun in his balloon Passing Wind. He was especially proud of restoring the Nautilust, a 1949 Chris Craft.

Known for his impeccable integrity, honesty and fairness, Norm always treated others with respect and acceptance, regardless of their position in life. He was serious when he needed to be, but could tease with totally believable made-up stories, only to spoil the joke with laughter.

Norm is survived by his wife of 51 years, Cathy, his son David Marley, daughter Denise Pool-Kalvelage (David), seven grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren, and his brother Craig. He was pre-deceased by his son Dale Marley (Sandi) and his brothers Vince and Steven. He was an amazing human being who leaves behind a huge hole in the hearts of us all.

Following a brief 11 am military honors ceremony at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, 2929 E Pinnacle Peak Rd, Phoenix, a Celebration of Life will be held at 12:30 pm on January 28, 2025 at Chompie's Restaurant, 3212 E Cactus Rd, Phoenix, AZ. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Soldier's Best Friend, https://soldiersbestfriend.org/.
