JAMES LYLE HAGAN, 69, passed away in Las Cruces, New Mexico on December 30, 2024. He was born in Portales, New Mexico to Dr. R. Lyle Hagan and Joyce Tallyn Hagan (both deceased) on December 18, 1955.

He graduated from Portales High School in 1974 and attained his Associate of Science degree from Eastern New Mexico University in 1976. From there, he moved to Las Cruces where he attended New Mexico State University and studied civil engineering. At one time, he worked in plant physical services for the school.

Jim went on to work as a construction supervisor for such builders as Mesilla Valley Construction and Dyna Con, supervising the building and/or renovations of privately owned and city structures such as apartment complexes and schools, not only in Las Cruces, but in the surrounding areas such as Deming and Silver City.

Jim married the love of his life, Phyllis, in September of 1990. After thirty-three years of marriage, she passed away in April 2023. Jim and Phyl loved Las Cruces and said they could never imagine living anywhere else. Jim’s favorite pastime was fishing, and he took every opportunity to do so.

Jim had a great work ethic. He was caring and generous, and no matter the circumstances, he had an optimistic outlook, a witty perspective, and a broad smile.

Jim is survived by his three older sisters Colette Welsing of Las Vegas, Nevada; Adrienne Hagan of Grand Junction, Colorado; Denise Hagan of Glendale, California; his younger brother Robert Hagan of Lubbock, Texas; and nine nieces and nephews.

A private celebration of life will be held by the family.
