In memoriam: James Allan "Jim" Schoenherr

Eddie-Millsap.webp

James Allan "Jim" Schoenherr, born November 5, 1954, to George and Fern Schoenherr of Springfield, Illinois, went home to his Lord and Savior on January 11, 2025, following a stroke.
Jim graduated from New Mexico State University in 1978 with a B.S. in Civil Engineering. He was employed by the IDOT as a traffic safety engineer for over thirty years. Following that he worked for the zoning commission in Petersburg, Illinois, and finally as a consultant for Quigg Engineering until his permanent retirement.
He married Diana (Hackethal) on April 3, 1982, and she survives as do their three children: daughters Amalia "Molly" Schoenherr and Anna Schoenherr, both of Springfield, Illinois, son Peter (wife Jessica) Schoenherr of Lincoln, Illinois, grandchildren Sawyer and Juniper as well as several nieces and nephews. His parents and his older brother George Michael preceded him in death.
Jim was a servant of God -- sweet, humble, and generous. When a tumor on his optic nerve finally took away the remainder of his vision in 2022, he handled a new lifestyle with humor, patience, and grace. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 14, 2025, at St. Peter Catholic Church in Petersburg from 10:00 am to 11:00 am immediately followed by a funeral mass. Fr. Sergio will officiate. Burial will take place at Calvary Cemetery in Petersburg following mass.
Donations may be made in his name to the Educational Center for the Visually Impaired, Springfield, Illinois.
Hurley Funeral Home in Petersburg is assisting Jim's family with arrangements. Please visit his online obituary at hurleyfh.com where you may also share memories and condolences.
