HUNT, Harold "Harry" of Clearwater, Florida, passed away peacefully on January 18, 2023. He was born July 6, 1929 in Ames, Iowa to the late Hal and Catherine Hunt. His loving wife of 67 years Joyce B. (Fritz) Hunt preceded him in death in 2018. He is survived by Steven Douglass Hunt (wife, Julie; grandson, Travis; great-granddaughters Isla and Reya; James Russell Hunt and partner, Dina Belmonte; granddaughters, Kelsey and Larissa), Stacie Alison Hunt (partner, Kevin Kelehan, grandson, Tyler) and 'other daughter', Carolyn Steele (partner, John Postel; 'other granddaughter' Maria). Harry grew up traveling around the country with his parents as Hal worked on civil engineering construction projects including TVA dams. He served in the U.S. Army primarily supporting the White Sands Missile Range in southern New Mexico. Following his military service, he and Joyce returned to Long Island, NY before moving to Clearwater, Florida in 1958 with their first child. He graduated from Carnegie Institute of Technology (now Carnegie Mellon University) with a degree in Electrical Engineering and New Mexico College of Agriculture and Mechanic Arts (now New Mexico State University) with a Master's degree in Electrical Engineering. He was quite active in social (Sigma Alpha Epsilon) and professional (Tau Beta Pi, Eta Kappa, Nu) fraternities. Harry's career was spent as an electrical engineer and program manager, working on millimeter wave systems and missile guidance systems at Sperry Rand Corporation which, through mergers, is now part Alliant Technologies. Harry took early retirement in 1991 and then worked as a proposal consultant for several years. Harry also made time to volunteer supporting his children through AAU Swim teams in Clearwater (Morningside, Clearwater For Youth), and supporting the community through Clearwater City Government Environmental Advisory Board and at he and Joyce's long time summer vacation home in North Carolina as a member of the Quail Cove Homeowners Association executive committee. Harry and Joyce loved traveling with family and longtime friends, diving in the Florida Keys, boating and walking on the 'best beaches' of Clearwater, hiking in the Carolina mountains and, through Joyce's travel business, on multiple international trips and cruises (especially barge cruises) throughout Europe and worldwide. There will be a private family celebration this spring. In lieu of flowers, please raise a glass and toast longtime friends and family and contribute to your local animal shelter here, or animal rescue group or the Southeastern Guide Dogs. here
