John Gilbert Jones, 86, passed away after a brief illness Saturday July 30, 2022, at his home in Houston TX.,where he had resided for many years. He was surrounded by loved ones through the end. He is survived by his wife, Marilyn E. Jones, 3 children: Jenifer Jones of Deming, NM, Jeff Jones of Wellington, FL, and Gina Welsh of Houston, TX; 10 grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren. John and Marilyn met 40 years ago, and he was an adoring husband to her for 38 years. He was born July 23rd, 1936 in Clayton, NM, to John P. Jones and Juanita Jones, and had 2 brothers: Paul Eugene Jones and James Michael Jones. John's father was in the Air Force, so they moved quite frequently, and he ended up graduating from Thomas Jefferson High School in San Antonio, TX.

John received a BS in mechanical engineering from New Mexico State University in 1960, graduated with honors, was in Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges, was president of his fraternity (SAE), as well as a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. He was a member of several scholastic honorary fraternities, including Pi Tau Sigma, Sigma Tau, and Blue Key. He loved to golf and fish, and was a big fan of the Houston Astros and Houston Rockets. John began his professional career as an engineer, and spent five wonderful years on the South Pacific island of Kwajalein, a place he loved for the rest of his life, and where he made many close, lifelong friends. Soon he realized the salespeople were having more fun, so for 55 years he was a respected sales and business manager. His last 20 years of work were in the oilfield with Sigma Electronics, traveling the world over, and eventually took a memorable trip to play at the home of golf, St. Andrews in Scotland. John gave generously to the Alzheimer's Association, donations in his name will be greatly appreciated.
