With COVID-19 impacting the New Mexico State University College of Engineering on-campus summer programs, college officials decided to offer multiple programs for middle school and high school students throughout the summer.

NM PREP will be a hands-on, online engineering summer program for middle school students entering sixth through eighth grades and high school students entering ninth through 12th grades. The STEM online programs begin in June. All NM PREP programs are free, but some project materials may need to be purchased online for around $80.

For more information or to submit an online application visit https://engrstem.nmsu.edu/nmprepacademy/. The application deadline is 5 p.m. May 7.

NMSU’s College of Engineering has offered the NM PREP Middle School Academy and NM PREP High School Academy summer programs since 2016.

“We are so excited to offer five different programs for the youth of New Mexico this year,” said Clara Welles, STEM program manager. “With a program for almost anyone, we hope to spark every students’ interest in STEM, specifically in engineering, through hands-on activities that simulate real-world engineering experiences.”

NM PREP will include hand-on projects with in-depth lessons about engineering concept, disciplines and careers.
