New Mexico State University and Los Alamos National Laboratory have signed a new institutional agreement to support joint appointments.
The joint appointments will provide opportunities for NMSU and LANL to attract, retain and recognize science and engineering staff and faculty with the goal of enhancing the quality of science, technology, education and industrial development in the region, state and nation.
“The university is very excited to move forward with this collaboration with the laboratory,” NMSU Chancellor Dan Arvizu said. “We’re glad to give our faculty a new pathway for working with the outstanding scientific and engineering staff at Los Alamos.”
“The laboratory is pleased to work with partners like NMSU to build scientific and engineering collaborations that mutually benefit both institutions,” LANL Director Thom Mason said. “The exchange of NMSU faculty and laboratory staff builds enduring collaborations and workforce pipelines.”
NMSU and LANL will work together to provide training and employee support, research, student advising, teaching responsibilities, project and grant support and development, administration of collaborations and partnerships, stewardship of publication, development of intellectual property and commercialization and general career development. Appointments are anticipated in computer science, computer engineering, systems engineering and mechanical engineering.
