Dr. Igor Sevostianov, NMSU Professor in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, was selected for this NASA EPSCoR Research CAN funding. Dr. Sevostianov’s project, titled “Next Generation Additive Manufacturing for Space Applications,” focuses on the development of a methodology for quality control and optimization of processing parameters for Additive Manufacturing (AM). The project is supported by NASA Johnson Space Center, Ames Research Center and White Sands Test Facility and brings together the three research universities in New Mexico, NMSU, NMT and UNM, plus Navajo Technical University.

Five pre-proposals were submitted to our NM NASA EPSCoR/NM Space Grant Consortium for selection to compete among the other EPSCoR states. Only one proposal per state was allowed to participate. Our New Mexico selection was conducted through a Technical Advisory Committee and a Red Team with members representing academia, all three research universities, industry and government. The award is for $750,000 for a three-year period of performance.
