NM PREP Virtual will be a hands-on, self-paced online engineering summer program for middle school students entering sixth through eighth grades and high school students entering ninth through 12th grades. The STEM online lessons will begin July 6. NM PREP Virtual is a free program, but project materials must be purchased online for around $75.

NMSU’s College of Engineering has offered the NM PREP Middle School Academy and NM PREP High School Academy summer programs since 2016.

“Just like the academies, NM PREP Virtual has been designed to spark student interest in STEM, specifically in engineering, by offering hands-on activities that simulate real-world engineering experiences,” said Clara Welles, STEM program manager. “With access to the instructor and PREP undergraduate student mentors, any student has the opportunity to successfully complete this month-long program.”

NM PREP Virtual will include four hand-on projects with in-depth lessons about engineering concepts and disciplines.
