College of Engineering to offer Six Sigma Green Belt Course

NMSU’s College of Engineering will offer a Six Sigma Green Belt course beginning March 23. This leadership development program is designed to help professionals flourish in rapidly changing environments while improving and managing processes for the benefit of strategic business priorities. The course prepares working professionals to pursue certification through the Council for Six Sigma Certification. Students often represent a variety of professions including engineering, finance, health care, information technology, project administration and more.

This Six Sigma course consists of two weeks of classroom instruction, March 23-27 and May 18-22, and the completion of a project. Students are expected to complete their projects within six months. Projects make use of the Six Sigma method to resolve a real-world issue. Course instructor, Wencil McClenahan, will be available remotely to coach students on their projects after the formal classroom instruction with approximately eight hours of mentoring time devoted to each student outside of class. McClenahan is a professional engineer and NMSU alumnus, now retired from Boeing Company, where he managed Six Sigma implementation for various sites more than 15 years.
