The College of Engineering at New Mexico State University is accepting applications for the 2020 NM PREP Academy, a summer residential program designed to engage high-achieving middle and high school students in hands-on STEM activities.

Selected students will gain insight on life as an undergraduate student by living among peers in university dormitories, work alongside peers to complete project-based learning activities, interact directly with university engineering faculty to identify innovative solutions to real-world problems, gain hands-on experience in problem solving and enhance communication skills.

The program offers two sessions, one for middle school students and another for high school students.

The NM PREP Middle School Academy is set for May 31-June 11 and is open to students currently enrolled in grades 6-8. Academy students will be immersed in hands-on engineering activities, live in the campus dorms, attend social and leadership activities and participate in a field trip.

The NM PREP High School Academy is June 14-26 and is open to students currently enrolled in grades 9-11. This program exposes students to the engineering design process, applied use of engineering software, advanced manufacturing using 3D printers, and the ability to implement their engineering skills with real-world projects. Students will interact directly with NMSU engineering faculty, live in campus dorms, participate in social and leadership activities, and participate in field trips within the local area.

There is no charge to participate in the NM PREP academies, but space is limited. All complete applications will be reviewed, and participants will be notified of acceptance at the beginning of May.

Applications are available online at https://engrstem.nmsu.edu/nmprepacademy/. Interested students must apply by 2 p.m., April 1.
