ANGLeS Challenge Championship set for July 20

To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing and to prepare for the next giant leap, NASA’s Northwest Earth and Space Sciences Pipeline will hold the Apollo Next Giant Leap Student Challenge — The ANGLeS Challenge. The event is hosted by the College of Engineering at New Mexico State University. The event is free and all are invited to attend. 

On Saturday, July 20, more than 200 students representing teams from across New Mexico and El Paso will gather at NMSU’s James B. Delamater Activity Center to showcase their drone flying and programming skills. This Apollo 11 moon landing-themed competition requires the teams to carry a lunar lander with a drone and complete several tasks using a Lego Mindstorm rover, before returning to their lander.

ANGLeS, which stands for Apollo Next Giant Leap Student Challenge, is a competition that offers middle- and high-school students an opportunity to work in a situation where they are confronted with the same problems, challenges and breakthroughs encountered by industry engineering teams. The ANGLeS mission is to inspire participating students to pursue careers in engineering, science, technology and math.
