The Stephen W. and Robert E. Roberts Memorial Staff Award is presented annually to an exceptional member of the New Mexico State University staff who has had a positive impact on the college and community.

Chemical and Materials Engineering Department Administrative Assistant and NMSU alumna Carol Dyer was selected as the 2017 recipient of this honor.

“I am so super thankful to have been selected to receive this super special award,” said Dyer.

There will be a ceremony held in her honor from 3 to 5 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 25 in Corbett Center Senate Chambers, Room 302. Family, friends and colleagues are invited to attend.

Dyer has worked at NMSU for 15 years. She had her first position in the Office of Facilities and Services and has spent the last eight years in the Chemical and Materials Engineering Department. Her administrative responsibilities are extremely extensive. Her work includes but is not limited to completing purchase orders, preparing and submitting payments, managing invoices, processing department hires and terminations, monitoring the maintenance of Jett Hall, assisting with undergraduate and graduate professional engineering societies and being a champion for students.

“My favorite part of working at NMSU, are the people, staff from all over campus that are always a phone call away, that help me each and every day, to the students and faculty that are like a second family to me,” said Dyer. “I consider myself to be very blessed to be part of NMSU.”

Dyer was nominated by several individuals including Chemical and Materials Engineering Department Head David Rockstraw. He believes that Dyer is one of the most productive members of their team, and without a doubt the best administrative assistant to work in the department in the last 20 years.

“Carol is the mother of chemical engineering,” said Rockstraw. “She is a strong advocate of our students and goes out of her way to assist them, even on matters not related to their education.”

Dyer’s kindness and hard work not only benefits the Chemical and Materials Engineering Department, but the community as well. Through her outreach, she has encouraged chemical engineering students to remember to give back others. Their combined number of community service hours each semester now reaches into the hundreds.

In her free time, Dyer supports the American Institute of Chemical Engineers and Aggies Without Limits.

“I understand that Carol Dyer truly loves NMSU and has poured her heart and soul into making it a better place for everyone,” said Rockstraw. “She is strongly deserving of this recognition.”
