Message from the Dean
As we begin 2017-18 academic year, I hope to maintain a strong grip on the same steering wheel we had in our hands during 2016-17, and continue to build upon the progress that we have already made in these areas.
- Recruitment and Retention: We will monitor enrollment trends and will make outreach to prospective students a priority. Equally important, we are adding services for current students so they graduate on time.
- Research: We have experienced an uptick in research expenditures and are designing new initiatives to support faculty and students in their scholarly pursuits.
- Fundraising: Our initiative of learning communities now has support from both internal and external stakeholders and will begin the semester in full swing. We will extend our fundraising effort to help departments with endowed chairs and professorships.
- Operational Efficiencies: We streamlined the efficiencies of college-level administrative processes and will continue this effort to ensure that we have synergy in all college operations.
On a personal note, I have completed one year as dean at NMSU engineering, and it has been one of my most fulfilling experiences in academic administration. I thank all of you for being part of such a pleasant learning environment.
