College of Engineering celebrates staff and faculty accomplishments
Friday, Feb. 24, College of Engineering faculty and staff members were recognized for their accomplishments at the first-ever Awards Banquet.
“We held our inaugural awards banquet to celebrate the accomplishments of our faculty and staff during Engineers’ Week and at the end of our Dean’s Advisory Council meeting to share this occasion with supporters of the college. The banquet was made possible by a generous donation from alum and long-time friend of the college Dr. Ed Foreman. New awards were established with funding from multiple donors with the important goal to promote synergy in the college,” said Dean Lakshmi Reddi. “It gave me immense pride and joy to recognize our outstanding faculty and staff. Please join me in congratulating this outstanding slate of award recipients.”
Nine faculty and staff members received awards for their accomplishments, collectively receiving nearly $10,000. Two faculty members were recognized for their National Science Foundation CAREER Awards. One new professorship was awarded and a chair and professorship were re-awarded to faculty members. And five top-grant awardees for 2016 were recognized.
Joining in the celebration were Foreman Awards benefactors Ed and Harold Foreman, NMSU Civil Engineering alums. Also present was Mary Howard, daughter of Former College of Engineering Dean Frank Bromilow, whose family supports the Bromilow Awards. Along with engineering faculty and staff were members of the College of Engineering Dean’s Advisory Council, Executive Vice President and Provost Dan Howard, Graduate School Dean Loui Reyes, Foundation President and Vice President for Advancement Andrea Tawney.
The College of Engineering awards were selected by Awards Committee Members David Voelz, professor, electrical and computer engineering; John Mullen, associate professor, industrial engineering; Ou Ma, professor, mechanical and aerospace engineering; Hongmei Luo, associate professor, chemical and materials engineering; Linda Schauer, grants and contracts administrator; and Linda Fresques, academic operations support officer.
