Taryn M. Bayles is a professor of Chemical and Petroleum Engineering and Vice Chair for Undergraduate Education at the University of Pittsburg. She currently serves as the Chair of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) Education Division, where she plays a crucial role in shaping engineering education at a national level.

Dr. Bayles has extensive industry experience, having worked with Exxon, Westinghouse, and Phillips Petroleum in various capacities, including process engineering, computer modeling and control, process design and testing, and engineering management. She integrates this practical expertise into her teaching, offering students real-world applications of fundamental engineering principles through interactive learning.

With more than 20 years of academic experience, Dr. Bayles has taught Chemical Engineering at the University of Nevada Reno, the University of Pittsburgh, the University of Maryland College Park, and the University of Maryland Baltimore County. Her dedication to engineering education extends beyond the classroom, as she actively researches ways to enhance student success in engineering disciplines.

A strong advocate for engineering outreach, Dr. Bayles co-authored the INSPIRES (INcreasing Student Participation, Interest, and Recruitment in Engineering and Science) curriculum. This program introduces high school students to engineering design through hands-on, inquiry-based learning, aligning with national STEM education standards.
