Eddie Binns ’57 Civil Engineering
Founder/President/CEO – Binns Enterprises
After graduating from NMSU in 1957 with a degree in civil engineering, Eddie Binns set out to build not only the finest homes, apartments, and commercial properties in Las Cruces, but to also build a home that everyone could afford.
Binns Enterprises is celebrating its 50th Anniversary, with more than 3,000 customers. Binns, founder, president and CEO of the company, has overseen the company’s accomplishments: building more than 1,500 homes, and building and owning multiple commercial properties and apartment complexes in Las Cruces, Hobbs, Carlsbad, and other communities throughout New Mexico.
Along the way, Binns’ entrepreneurial spirit led him to a variety of other business activities, including banking, serving on the board of El Paso Electric to help guide the proposal and construction of the Palo Verde station, launching the ReadyMix concrete operation, ranching, and even owning a winery.
Additionally, Binns has given back to the community by serving in the Rio Grande Rotary Club and receiving Rotarian of the Year award, and providing support for an annual Rotary fundraiser that generates over $20,000 for hospice care, and supporting neonatal care.
Binns has served as New Mexico’s D.C. representative on the National Homebuilders Association, presenting a seminar for NMSU civil engineering students on the advantages of being a contractor, and supporting the Athletics Aggie Booster Club.
Binns and his wife Bernice have four children: Cynthia, Karen, and two Aggie sons, Mike (’90 economics), and David (’92 finance/real estate).
