Qamar “Omar” U. Zaman ‘70 BSCE
Qamar “Omar” U. Zaman received his B.S.C.E. from NMSU in 1970. He completed his graduate studies in Civil Engineering and Airport Planning Design at the Georgia Institute of Technology. He currently is employed by Moreland, Altobelli Associates, Inc. as a Senior Project Manager. Omar is responsible for 18 roadway projects and major highways including budgets, schedules and quality. He is a Professional Engineer and is licensed in New York, Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee and North Carolina. He is affiliated with numerous Engineering Societies which include: the American Society of Civil Engineers, the National Society of Professional Engineers, American Consulting Engineers Council and the Georgia Association of Professional Engineers.
Between September, 1991 and October, 1993, while with Williams-Russell and Johnston, Inc., he worked as the Chief Civil Engineer for the site and civil engineering design of the Atlanta Olympic Stadium for the 1996 Summer Olympic Games. Omar was Project Manager for the design and construction management of the rehabilitation of plaza areas and the parking facilities improvements for the Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium. He served as Project Manager for the site civil design of the Georgia Dome, an indoor football stadium of 70,000 seats. He also served as discipline chief engineer for the site development for a $150 million Utoy Creek Water Reclamation Center Project for the City of Atlanta.
While with Ewell W. Finley & Partners, Inc., Omar was Chief Engineer and Director of Operations responsible for the business development in the Southeast region and for the engineering, coordination and management of all airport and Mass Rapid Transit projects for the firm. Airport Projects worked on while in this position include the Atlanta Hartsfield International Airport and the Logan International Airport in Boston, Massachusetts. The Mass Rapid Transit Projects include the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority, the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority, the Niagara Frontier Transit Authority. The Highway and Bridge Projects include Suitland Parkway, Armory Plaza (Robert F. Kennedy Stadium) rehabilitation of 3 bridges and roadways, the Virginia Manor and Ammendale Roads. The Building Projects include Atlanta City Hall, New City Hall Annex Complex, the U.S. Post Office facility complex in North Georgia, plus a 20 thousand square foot vehicle maintenance facility.
