Paul E. Russel

Paul Edgar Russell graduated from Roswell High School in May 1941 and served in the Signal Corps in the Philippines and Japan during World War II, where he was honorably discharged as a U.S. Army staff sergeant. Following his military service, he pursued higher education, earning a B.S. in Electrical Engineering in 1946 and a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering in 1947 from New Mexico State University. He obtained a master's degree in 1950 and a doctorate in 1951 in Electrical Engineering from the University of Wisconsin.

Russell had a distinguished academic career, retiring as a professor of Electrical Engineering at Arizona State University (ASU). He previously served as the head of the Department of Electrical Engineering at the University of Arizona, dean of Engineering at Kansas State University, and program director for Applied Science, Engineering, and Technology at ASU's West Campus, which he helped establish. He also served as the director of ASU's School of Construction and Technology.

In addition to his academic roles, Russell worked as a design specialist and consultant for General Dynamics and various other companies in the U.S. and internationally. He was actively involved with the Engineering Accreditation Commission for the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET), serving as both vice chairman and chairman. His contributions extended globally as he helped establish engineering programs in various countries.

A fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), Russell was also a member of numerous honorary and fraternal societies.
