John M. Mcgurn
John M. Mcgurn was a retired chairman of the Virginia Electric and Power Company. Born in El Paso, Texas, he graduated from New Mexico State University in 1934 with a degree in electrical engineering. Mcgurn began his career as a test engineer for the El Paso Electric Company and joined Virginia Electric in 1941 as a test engineer at the Reeves Avenue Power Station in Norfolk, Virginia.
He steadily advanced within the company, becoming the Norfolk district manager in 1959. In 1967, he was appointed president, chief executive officer, and director of the utility, and in 1971, he became chairman of the company. Mcgurn retired in 1978 after a distinguished career.
