The Presidential Blue Ribbon Commission (BRC) on America’s Nuclear Future will soon visit southern New Mexico’s Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) as a model operation; WIPP is independently monitored for health and environmental safety by the Carlsbad Environmental Monitoring and Research Center (CEMRC) through New Mexico State University’s Institute for Energy and the Environment (IEE), part of the College of Engineering.

CEMRC receives extension of work for LANL at WIPP

The Carlsbad Environmental Monitoring Center (CEMRC) assists the Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) Earth and Environmental Sciences Division in Carlsbad in providing support to the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) in areas of actinide chemistry, transuranic waste inventory management and assessment, and technical advisory capacity to the DOE on long-range planning for WIPP.
