Holguin will be presented a plaque and a $2,000 award during a ceremony at 4 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 14, in the Corbett Center Student Union Colfax Room. The ceremony will be open to the public.

The Roberts Memorial Staff Award is presented annually to a staff member who has made a contribution to university life and demonstrated dedication and outstanding service to the community.

Holguin has worked for NMSU for 13 years and has been an administrative assistant for the College of Engineering M-TEC Program for the past seven. Holguin has been described as an exceptional individual who is pleasant to work with and dedicated to her job.

The M-TEC organization provides technical assistance to businesses and individuals throughout New Mexico and manages a statewide high school and middle school engineering program called Project Lead the Way. Holguin’s extensive responsibilities with M-TEC include facilitating events, managing funding and working with a diverse group of constituents.

“She has always done her job with pride and with a smile,” said Anthony Hyde, Holguin’s supervisor.

Holguin is actively involved in community service projects and has participated in the NMSU Empty Bowls event for the past four years. She also participates in Magnificent, a Catholic women’s ministry; the American Cancer Society and Relay for Life.

Holguin said she has greatly enjoyed working for M-TEC and NMSU, and she is humbled and excited to receive the award. She is also the third generation employed at NMSU.

“I’m very, very honored to receive this award. I know many staff members in the Department of Engineering, and probably around the rest of the campus, who are deserving of this award,” Holguin said. “I didn’t really expect to receive it. I was just doing my job and doing the best I can.”

The Roberts Memorial Staff Award was established in 1983 in memory of Stephen W. and Robert E. Roberts, sons of former NMSU Business Affairs Vice President George W. Roberts and his wife, Bernice. Stephen, a 1974 NMSU graduate, and Robert, a NMSU student at the time, were killed in an automobile accident in 1978. The award is made possible through donations of the Roberts’ family and friends.
