LAS CRUCES, N.M., PRNewswire/ — The UVS International General Assembly, which was held in Paris, France on January 12, 2010, elected its new Board of Directors for the years 2010 and 2011. Doug Davis, Global UAS Strategic Initiatives Director for New Mexico State University’s Physical Science Laboratory (NMSU/PSL), was among those named to the board. At the first meeting of the new Board of Directors, which took place in Paris, France on January 13, 2010, the nomination of the President, Treasurer and Secretary was unanimously agreed on by the new Board of Directors, with Doug Davis elected the new Secretary.

“I am honored to be named to the board of this innovative and forward-thinking organization,” said Mr. Davis. “UVS International is working to coordinate and promote Unmanned Vehicle Systems (UVS) activities across the globe, and I am proud to lend my knowledge, leadership, and experience to that endeavor.”

“UVS International has been working since its inception to help establish international awareness, coordination, and acceptance of Unmanned Systems,” said Steve Hottman, Director of NMSU/PSL’s Technical Analysis and Applications Center (TAAC), which has created one of the world’s leading Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) training, research and development, test, and evaluation facilities. “PSL has over eleven years of experience testing and evaluating UAS, and has worked with the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to develop safe operating procedures and standards for UAS in the U.S. National Airspace System. Doug’s background and experience with UAS programs at both NMSU/PSL and the FAA will benefit UVS International.”

The addition of Mr. Davis to the UVS board continues a long history of contributions by the NMSU TAAC to advance the development and operation of unmanned systems. Unmanned systems, particularly UAS, have entered the international spotlight due to their military value and their increasing utility for commercial and scientific applications.

The NMSU/PSL TAAC was established in 1999 with the mission to promote safe integration of UAS in the National Airspace System. The Center operates the only FAA-approved UAS flight test center and is the world’s leading UAS test and evaluation facility. With over 15,000 square miles of airspace, and access to additional restricted airspace which it coordinates with the White Sands Missile Range, the NMSU/PSL TAAC maintains unmatched operating space and capabilities. The TAAC has been involved in the testing of numerous UAS platforms for corporate and government clients and, in close cooperation with the FAA, has produced a certification roadmap that is serving as a framework for UAS certification within the US National Airspace System.

UVS International is a non-profit association registered with the Chamber of Commerce in The Hague, The Netherlands and operates out of offices in Paris, France. It represents manufacturers of Unmanned Vehicle Systems (UVS), and manufacturers of sub-systems and critical components for UVS and associated equipment, as well as companies supplying services with or for UVS.
