Mission Overview and Latest Progress of the Tsinghua Scientific Satellite
Upper Atmosphere has a significant influence on the orbit, space radio transmission and structure materials of the spacecraft. The accuracy of the atmosphere environment model can improve the precision of the spacecraft orbit determination and help engineer to improve the structure performance avoiding the atomic oxygen erosion. It is difficult to build the accurate model of upper atmosphere since random, real-time and uncertainty characteristics. Generally, large numbers of data of the atmosphere at low orbit are needed to improve the model of the atmosphere. “Tsinghua Scientific Satellite” is a small satellite mission proposed by Tsinghua University, which purpose is to explore the atmospheric density below 500 km and improve the model of the atmospheric density. In order to complete the detection, the accuracy of satellite orbit determination needs less than 10 cm, and the accuracy of atmospheric density detection needs better than 10-13 kg/m3. The satellite consists of a 510 mm diameter spherical frame with spherical baseplates, which fitted with the dual frequency GPS receiver with commercial shelf products after screening and reinforcement. Passive thermal control is adapted and considering the heating resistance on batteries. The satellite will be launched to 500 km orbit in December 2017. This talks presents the mission overview of Tsinghua Scientific Satellite and introduces the satellite design and latest progress.
Dr. Wang has been working as associate professor at Tsinghua University since 2009 in the field of spacecraft formation flying, system engineering of space scientifical satellite and space traffic safety. Dr. Wang has authored or co-authored more than 80 journal articles and conference papers. He has authored one text book and co-authored two text books. Dr. Wang holds more than 20 patents in China and one patent in USA and Germany. He is Council member of Chinese Association of Automation(CAA) and Chinese Institute of Command and Control(CICC), Member of IEEE, Member of AIAA.
Since 2015, Dr. Wang is chairman of aerospace safety professional committee of CICC.
