The New Mexico State Highway and Transportation Department has awarded $120,000 for the continuation of a project intended to provide recommendations for the mix design and construction practices used to produce durable concrete bridge decks. Previous work has resulted in recommendations for construction practices that will reduce concrete shrinkage and reduce the occurrence of shrinkage cracks. In this project, a misting system to provide real conditions with wind and evaporation will be developed and demonstrated on a bridge construction project. This will provide comments in regards to feasibility of the design and recommendations for aspects of the design that should be modified.
