EPA Pollution Prevention Grant

Dr. Abbas Ghassemi and Chris Campbell, WERC
U.S. Environmental Protection Agency
$57,295

WERC: A Consortium for Environmental Education and Technology Development has been awarded $57,295 by the Environmental Protection Agency to continue a focus on raising community awareness of the dangers of regulated medical waste and mercury pollution and the need to reduce mercury contamination by providing more healthcare P2 programs to regional medical centers in New Mexico . This will in turn minimize mercury contamination in wastewater and in surface water bodies. Additional partnerships forged in this PPG grant will result in greater effort to educate New Mexicans on the importance of eliminating mercury from our state's waste stream.
