Civil engineering department receives bridge inspection contract
David V. Jáuregui, associate professor of civil engineering, was awarded a $681,750 contract by the New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT). Under the one-year contract, NMSU will conduct the inspection of bridge structures throughout New Mexico, including special structures such as the Rio Grande Gorge Bridge for the NMDOT Bridge Design Division. The inspections will be led by professional engineers with support from undergraduate co-op students majoring in civil engineering at NMSU. In addition, NMSU graduate students specializing in structural engineering will perform analytical load ratings of existing bridges as part of the contract.
