NMSU receives grant for developing organic solar cells

The College of Engineering New Mexico State University was awarded $974,000 from the U.S. Department of Energy for a two-year research project focused on developing organic nano-electronic-based photovoltaics. These devices will be fabricated using composites formed between nano-molecular structures (from quantum dots to Fullerenes) and organic conjugated polymers. The project will consist of first fabricating a suitable new active semiconductor material and secondly forming two distinct device architectures: a) a thin film coating and b) a new cascade solar cell fiber. The principal investigators for this project include Dr. Shuguang Deng of the Chemical Engineering Department, Dr. Igor Vasiliev of the Physics Department, Dr. Rudi Schoenmackers of the College of Engineering, and Dr. Shay Curran of the University of Houston.
