Increase of $29,000 (modification, total award $56,000
Igor Sevostianov, associate professor of mechanical engineering, has received an increase in funding of $29,000 from Texas Tech University. The total award is $56,000 for his work on the development of a model for overall thermal pressure coefficient (TPC) of a composite reinforced with layered particles. The model is based on the incremental homogenization scheme that replaces layered inclusions by homogeneous ones producing the same effect. Various laws of property variation across the interphase are discussed. It is shown that the most important parameters controlling effective TPC are the relative thickness of the interphase layer and the mean value of TPC across this layer. This work has been accepted for publication later this year in the International Journal of Fracture.
