Degrees and Programs


The College of Engineering offers nine degree programs. The list below gives an overview of what each major involves. Click on the link for the department to find more information about what each field has to offer.

 

Chemical Engineers design new power sources, keep our water clean, and help manufacture the thousands of chemicals which make modern life possible.The following degrees are offered in Chemical Engineering at NMSU:

  • MINOR: Nuclear Energy
  • DEGREE: Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering (BSChE)
  • DEGREE: Master of Science in Chemical Engineering (MSChE)
  • DEGREE: Doctor of Philosophy in Engineering (Ph.D.)
    • Concentration in Chemical Engineering

Civil Engineers design buildings, dams, bridges, roads, and other components of our social infrastructure, ensuring their safety and usability.

The following degrees are offered in Civil Engineering at NMSU:

  • MINOR: Agricultural Engineering
  • DEGREE: Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering (BSCE)
    • OPTION: Structures

Electrical and Computer Engineers design the hardware and software we use every day, from cell phones and i-pods ® to satellites and lasers. They develop more efficient means to power our nation and develop leaders in the power industry through the Electrical Utility Management Program, one of the only of its kind in the nation.

The following degrees are offered in Electrical and Computer Engineering at NMSU:

  • DEGREE: Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE)
  • DEGREE: Master of Science in Electrical Engineering (MSEE)
  • DEGREE: Doctor of Philosophy in Engineering (Ph.D.)
    • Concentration in Electrical Engineering

Engineering Physics merges the theoretical science of physics with the more practical discipline of engineering. Engineering Physicists specialize in either Electrical or Mechanical Engineering. The program is offered jointly by the College of Engineering and the Department of Physics (College of Arts & Sciences). It is the only engineering physics degree program in New Mexico.

The following degrees are offered in Engineering Physics at NMSU:

Engineering Technologists build, repair and test the designs of engineers. Specializing in Civil, Electronic and Computer, Information and Communication, or Mechanical Technology, technologists bridge the gap between designer and user. Without technologists, the designs of engineers would just be scraps of paper. The only Engineering Technology degree programs in New Mexico.

Industrial Engineers design efficient processes, from figuring out how many check-out stands a grocery store needs, how paper flows through an office, and how medical offices can schedule patients with less waiting time. NMSU offers the only Industrial Engineering degree in New Mexico. On-line options are available for the master’s and doctoral degrees.

Aerospace Engineers design develop, and test aerodynamic vehicles and spacecraft as well as their related systems. NMSU offers the only aerospace program in New Mexico.

Mechanical Engineers use principles such as heat, force, and the conservation of mass and energy to analyze static and dynamic physical systems, in contributing to the design of things such as automobiles, aircraft, and other vehicles, heating and cooling systems, household appliances, industrial equipment and machinery, weapons systems, etc.
