Engineering New Mexico Resource Network
NM PREP (Pre-freshman Engineering Program)
As the New Mexico University Affiliate for Project Lead the Way (PLTW), the College of Engineering has re-designed the PREP curriculum to better align the program to support engineering recruitment and retention strategies. PREP will focus on project based learning activities and engineering innovation.
This summer, PREP will offer two one-week sessions. Both sessions will have offerings for students based on their grade level.
Students in grades 6 through 8 are eligible to participate in PREP 1. PREP 1 is a five-day program starting at 8:30am and ending at 11:30am that utilizes the PLTW Gateway Academy curriculum. This curriculum is designed specifically as an entry level course to expose middle school students to the engineering discipline.
Students in grades 9 through 11 are eligible to participate in PREP 2. PREP 2 is a five-day program starting at 8:30am and concluding at 3:30pm. Lunch will be provided for students participating in PREP 2. PREP 2 focuses on more advanced project-based learning activities and engineering innovation and will also expose students to various engineering labs within the College.
The College is and always will be committed to creating a pipeline of educational opportunities to meet the demand for a strong engineering workforce. All interested students are encouraged to apply by March 31. Eligible students may sign up for PREP 1 or 2 on the following dates: June 2-6 OR (both weeks offer the same instruction) June 9-13.
