Student group presents Lowell Catlett for fundraising dinner

The New Mexico State University chapter of Engineers Without Borders will be hosting a fundraising dinner on Friday September 18 at the NMSU Golf Course Clubhouse. The event starts with a happy hour from 6:00-6:30 pm, dinner from 6:30 to 7:30, followed by featured speaker Dr. Lowell Catlett, from 7:30 to 8.
Catlett, NMSU's Dean of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences, is a futurist who has given presentations the world over. He will present his take on the "Greening of America."
Tickets can be purchased from any EWB member, by calling 575-646-5499, or by emailing a request to ewb@nmsu.edu. The ticket price is $50 per person.
In the spring of 2009, members of this group built a 100-foot-long, 18-foot-wide ford bridge across a semi-dry riverbed in Las Boquillas, Chihuahua, Mexico. Before the bridge was built, the people of Las Boquillas found themselves stranded for weeks at a time during the rainy season, running low on food and other supplies because they could not cross the river to get to the main road. Students and faculty members of the chapter put in an estimated 1200 manhours in the evaluation, design, logistics, fundraising and construction of this project. Because of time constraints, the ford bridge was not an officially sanctioned EWB-USA project, but those in the future will be.
Funds raised from this event will support future projects of the group.
The NMSU Chapter of Engineers Without Borders is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. All donations and ticket purchases are tax deductable.
