Department of Chemical Engineering
Fully accredited by the Accreditation Board of Engineering and Technology, the Department of Chemical Engineering offers hands-on application of theory and concepts. Laboratory facilities provide opportunities where students learn the importance of teamwork and develop effective oral and written communication skills. The department is housed in Jett Hall (JH), which is named in honor of Dr. Daniel B. Jett. Dr. Jett served as the Dean of the College of Engineering from 1938-1947. Department of Civil Engineering
Fully accredited by the Accreditation Board of Engineering and Technology, the Department of Civil Engineering offers specializations in environmental, general civil, geotechnical, structural and water resources engineering. Graduates from the program are well prepared to be licensed, practicing professional civil engineers. The department is housed in Hernandez Hall with additional facilities located in Engineering Complex I and Engineering Complex III. Hernandez Hall is named in honor of Dr. John Hernandez, a former Dean of the College of Engineering from 1975-1980 and professor emeritus. Dr. Hernandez was named an honorary member of the oldest national engineering society in the U.S. , the American Society of Civil Engineering (ASCE).
Department of Engineering Technology
The Department of Engineering Technology provides students with a quality engineering technology education that links theory and application, and gives students enhanced career opportunities. The department provides an educational and social environment that promotes and facilitates student learning. It is a highly respected and visible department within the College with graduates who are actively sought by industry from through New Mexico and the southwest region of the United States . The Department is located within the Engineering Complex III.
Klipsch School of Electrical and Computer Engineering
The Klipsch School of Electrical and Computer Engineering is dedicated to providing quality educational opportunities in electrical and computer engineering to prepare students for successful careers in industry, government and academics. The Klipsch School is fully accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology. The School is named in honor of the late Paul W. Klipsch, an NMSU alumni and one of America 's most celebrated audio pioneers. In 1978, Paul W. Klipsch was awarded the Audio Engineering Society's highest honor, the prestigious Silver Medal, for his contributions to speaker design and distortion measurement. He was inducted into the Audio Hall of Fame in 1984. In 1997, he was inducted into the Engineering and Science Hall of Fame, an honor shared by Thomas Edison, George Washington Carver and the Wright Brothers. Paul W. and Valerie Klipsch have established seven endowed scholarships and four endowed professorships over the years in support of faculty and students in electrical and computer engineering.
The Klipsch School is located in Thomas and Brown Hall, named in honor of the former Dean of Engineering Melvin A. Thomas (1947-1961) and Professor Harold A. Brown with additional offices and laboratory facilities located in Goddard Annex.
Department of Industrial Engineering
The College of Engineering at New Mexico State University offers the only industrial engineering degree program in New Mexico . The Department of Industrial Engineering is fully accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology. The program effectively prepares students for a wide variety of employment opportunities or advanced education in fields such as engineering, law, medicine and business. Students in the program receive hands-on experience in laboratories and are encouraged to participate in co-operative education and internship opportunities. The department is located in Engineering Complex III.
Department of Mechanical Engineering
Fully accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology, the Department of Mechanical Engineering provides students education in design, manufacturing and skills necessary to operate a wide range of mechanical components, devices and systems. The department also offers the state's only degree in aerospace engineering. The department is located in Jett Hall (JH), which is named in honor of Dr. Daniel B. Jett. Dr. Jett served as the Dean of the College of Engineering from 1938-1947.
Department of Surveying Engineering
The College of Engineering at New Mexico State University offers the only surveying engineering degree program in New Mexico that is accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology. The program effectively prepares students for employment through hands-on educational and field experiences. The department uses state-of-the-art equipment in its laboratory and field projects. The department is located in Engineering Complex I.
