2006- John Galassini

John Galassini was born and raised in Silver City, New Mexico. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from NMSU in 1986. After graduation, he accepted employment with General Electric Company in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Galassini went to work to Phelps Dodge Mining Company, now Freeport McMoRan Copper and Gold, in 1987 as a shift supervisor in the solution extraction/electrowinning facility at Morenci, Ariz. He has held various positions of increasing responsibility in Arizona, New mexico and Chile. He is currently senior vice president of Freeport McMoRan Americas.

Galassini is a member of the Society for Mining, Metallurty and Exploration (SME) and sesrved on the strategic planning committee for that organization. He is a past chairman of the Morenci Section of SME. He also serves on the NMSU College of Engineering Dean’s Advisory Council.
