Tracking and Data Relay Satellite Engineering Support – Entry Level Position: Tracking and Data Relay Satellite (TDRS) Spacecraft Engineering Support includes support for the health and safety of the TDRS on-orbit spacecraft fleet. TDRS Spacecraft Engineers work from the TDRS Operations Control Center (TOCC) located at the Second TDRS Ground Terminal (STGT) at White Sands Complex (WSC), Las Cruces, New Mexico. TDRS Engineers maintain the health, safety and status of NASA’s TDRS fleet including: spacecraft state-of-health and trending; redundancy management of on-orbit TDRS subsystems and components; TDRS anomaly resolution; fleet management for continuity of SN customer services; and TDRS system integration and transition of Space Network new assets. Engineering expertise is required in Attitude Control System (ACS), Thermal, Power, Structural, Payload (communications), and/or Orbit Determination. Supported activity includes: spacecraft maneuvers, relocations and special activities requiring specific command sequence generation and activity coordination with internal entities and external organizations. Further duties include planning and conducting periodic spacecraft payload performance testing and maintaining the various databases and status charts used in the TDRS routine flight operations. Critical duties include anomaly resolution or emergency responses when significant spacecraft anomalies occur. Required support is eight-hours per days, five-days per week and extended hours to conduct special operations or resolve spacecraft anomalies as required.

The TDRS spacecraft are unique and require the candidate to learn quickly.  Candidate should be a self-starter, ambitious, and motivated.  Upon job start, candidate must become familiar with processes, procedures, specifications, requirements, etc. associated with the TDRS spacecraft.  This is accomplished through having training but also requires significant documentation review.

Qualifications

This position requires an active (or ability to obtain) U.S. Security Clearance, for which the US Government requires US Citizenship.

This position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a “US Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15 is required.

Typical Education/Experience:
– Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry.   ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
– Degree from an accredited college local to Las Cruces NM is preferred.

Must be willing to work 1st shift (primarily) and 2nd or 3rd shift (as required).

This position requires that you work out of Las Cruces, New Mexico. If you do not reside in Las Cruces, New Mexico area you must be willing to relocate at your own expense.
