Paulina Zuniga, industrial engineering senior, has been selected to the 2008 Spring Academic ALL-WAC teams that were recently announced by the league office. She earned the same distinction as a freshman in 2006.

To be eligible, a student athlete must have completed at least one academic year, have at least a 3.00 cumulative grade point average and have participated in at least 50 percent of the team’s contests.

Zuniga, from Guadalupe, Mexico, has a GPA of 3.85. She has been on the NMSU tennis team since Aug. 2005. She enters her senior season having won 99 combined singles and doubles matches. As a junior, Zuniga was named the WAC Player of the Week after going 3-1 in singles play the week before. She was a nationally ranked tennis player from Jan. 1995 to Aug. 2005.

“I always say that Paulina is the poster person for the NCAA—as competitive in the classroom as on the court,” said Edward Pines, industrial engineering department head.

This past spring, Zuniga was one of nine new members inducted into the NMSU chapter of Tau Beta Pi, the Engineering Honor Society, being elected into the only engineering honor society that represents the entire engineering profession by collegiate engineering chapters based on her academic performance and exemplary character. She is also a member of Alpha Pi Mu National Industrial Engineering Honor Society.

Zuniga is one 19 New Mexico State University athletes from the baseball, men’s and women’s golf and the men’s and women’s tennis teams were selected to the teams.
